I’ve been making videos in some form or another for almost 10 years. Along the way, my skills have been improving and I’ve tried my hand at different techniques and styles. Here’s a few examples; enjoy!
Science in Motion: stop motion piece representing a simple narrative of a day in the life as a scientist, used to examine the scientific method and the constructed nature of knowledge. Created in collaboration with Morag Hickman and Nils Hanwahr.
Science Nation Army: audio and video produced from scratch from a single afternoon’s recording of a working science lab. Shot by David Robertson, edited with Ben Good.
GoPro Surf Sessions: a combination of clips shot in my first few weeks using the GoPro HD point of view video camera.
Visual Reflections: this piece was put together using a selection of otherwise unused clips from the Inside Knowledge project. It was an opportunity to experiment with stills and moving clips in combination.
Reverse Racing: we set ourselves one hour to plan, shoot and edit a video. This was the result. Ten minutes brainstorming and storyboarding, twenty five minutes shooting, similar time editing, and we exported it on the 58th minute. It’s not perfect, but it was a good exercise!
