I just read that an advertising campaign on the side of buses in Iowa was canned for being offensive. What could it possibly have been? Swear words? Graphic images? Incitement of violence? Well, uh…
“Don’t believe in God? You are not alone.”
It had a background of fluffy white clouds, with a link to the Iowa Atheists & Freethinkers group. Politicians outraged, hundreds of comments on online news reports, angry phonecalls… for THAT?
Is it really offensive to read that there are people out there who don’t agree with you? Is it disturbing? Or is it just time to swallow a cup of concrete? I’m glad there’s only a minority of people in Australia who would even give the ad a second glance, let alone ring in to the bus company and complain that oh no, a minority group in the community is trying to publicy suggest to its members that they exist.
Edit: Oh, joy. A little more reading and it turns out that similar adverts were rejected outright in Australia.
