Getting back to basics

There are a multitude of creative ways of presenting information, and this is one of the cooler ones I’ve come across recently: a University of Utah sliding scale of relative sizes of small objects. It covers a range of items from a coffee grain down to a single carbon atom – my favourite comparison is the size of our mitochondria (the energy factories present in our cells) to that of the free-living E. coli bacterium, though looking at a sperm next to an X-chromosome is interesting too!

For my two cents, zooming out is much more fun than zooming in!
