Brand New Trolls Under African Skies

It’s the first Monday of the new year, and that means it’s time to listen to some music you may never have heard! Here’s three songs to get you rolling, and if in doubt, hit the music map, type in the name of your favourite artists and then go on a youtube adventure from the suggestions generated!

The first is a fusion of strings and distorted guitars; it’s Allegro/Adagio (Cheerful/Shadows) from Concerto Grosso by the Italian group, New Trolls. For my money, their recorded improvised version of ‘Nella Sala Vuota’ contains one of the best drum breakdowns I’ve heard… the whole song is 20 minutes long though!

Changing tune, we head south of the equator to catch up with Paul Simon for The Boy In The Bubble. A fantastic track, the audio quality for this concert isn’t quite up to standard but I couldn’t find one with better imagery.

And finally, to round out the puns in the title, we have Brand New with The Archers’ Bows Have Broken. I love the driving percussion throughout, I love the delicate guitar woven behind the verses, and I can’t help but be caught up in the emotion of the lyrics.

So… any recommendations for me in the New Year? What’s been lighting up your earphones or speakers of late?

Money for nothing? Or perhaps even cheques for free? Acapella. Boom town.

  2. George. George! I’m not singing with you anymore man.
