A city of ghosts and trees

I really, really want to visit Chernobyl.

Seriously.

It looks amazing – the most literal urban jungle imaginable. After the nuclear disaster, the city was abandoned, and now nature has started to reclaim the city. Photographer Paul has put together a panoramic photo, taken this year, of the city from the top of a building:

The resulting stitch shows probably the most complete picture of Pripyat Town that you can get in a single place – if you look closely, you can even see the “Steel Yard” (Duga-3 array), and you can make out all the famous major buildings, including the fairground. This was shot on 29th May, 2011.

Check it out here, then imagine exploring this place – no cars, no people, just you, the buildings and the trees.

What an amazing photo stitch. I would love to see it the way the photographer did.
