Welcome to my blog. It’s a place where I share my thoughts, opinions and snapshots with the wider world.

At home on the Gold Coast, Australia.

I’m an environmental scientist and communicator. I’m passionate about science. It makes sense of the world around us, and has radically shaped the course of human history in the past 500 years. And I love exploring the world: the wilder, the better. I have a hunger to learn new things about myself and the world I live in, and want everyone to have the opportunity to do this too.

While I enjoyed research, especially the bits where I had to wander around in swamps and survey sand dunes, I found the lab bench confining. In my spare days I took school groups out to study local waterways with Waterwatch, and found Green Steps (and my ongoing role as a trainer) and involvement with the AYCC so enjoyable that I decided to turn my enthusiasm into my livelihood. In 2010 I moved to London to complete a Master of Science in Science Communication at Imperial College London.

I then took on a job in the Science Museum, program managing the experimental Lottolab, which produced the first ever peer-reviewed manuscript by a class of school kids (it starts “Once upon a time…“). I found myself running a neuroscience nightclub and managing an ‘open lab’ which brought Museum visitors into the thick of real experiments. I then moved into the Contemporary Science team, where I develop updates for the galleries, run huge events and get to find out and share jaw-dropping stuff every day.
