We are at the pinnacle of a pyramid, standing on the shoulders of Giants…

Sometimes, captured images can just blow my mind. I’ve just had one of those moments.

Courtesy of George at Biochemical Brother, I watched Michael Konig’s reworking of time lapses taken from the International Space Station of late. It’s brilliant. Take 5 minutes, and watch it. I advise muting the Vimeo version’s music, and putting on a bit of Radiohead (below) to creep it all out a little. Fullscreen is, of course, a must.

Think of all the convergent lines of human endeavour that have culminated in our ability to appreciate our unique world like this. All the people, their struggles, their tedium, the dramas of their lives… some celebrated in history, but so many stories lost. We’ve come a long way from the time of celestial spheres, and we can’t take for granted the effort that’s gone into imagining, building and understanding the world we live in.

Where will we go next?

Oops, I lied

Here’s another picture of Battersea Bridge.

It’s because I have a cold. Honest. It’s impairing my ability to write lengthy, gripping, prose.

And a few more stragglers arrive

I took so many photos of Battersea in the past week or so, I can’t just put up 3! Here’s 3 more. Then I promise I’ll post about other stuff. Promise. Cross my heart.

Hot tip: Rolling down a gentle slope into a drift of autumn leaves, then looking dizzily up at a huge tree, is fun for adults as well as kids!

The haze and the harsh afternoon sun whitewashed the view around the Thames corner.

Another random part of Battersea Park - I assume when rain falls, not leaves, this becomes a water feature.

OK, that’s enough!

Gasping for sunshine

London has been suffocating under a grey blanket for the past couple of weeks. Today was a dose, an injection, a ray of sunshine, to entice people outdoors and into the world. I went for another walk in Battersea Park, and it was the opposite of last week: full of people and bright light.

I really like this shot, because of what it captures - people enjoying Autumn's sunny resplendence.

Melting Buildings

This is an ‘almost amazing’, but I still like it. Click on the image to view it full size.

I’d been photographing the bridge and various reflections on a totally calm Thames, when a small barge drove past. It was only as the wake spread that I realised how cool the reflections were going to look. Unfortunately, my camera was set at 6 second exposure, which would blur out the wake totally. With an eye on the fast-moving wake, I dialled in new settings and snapped off this shot. It’s not perfect, but it’s definitely one of the more eye-catching images I’ve taken in London.
